U-Belt Fabric Expansion Joint Designs: Temperature and Pressure

FlexCom fabric expansion joints are designed for reliable, dependable use in gas transfer applications - such as exhaust management and induced fan systems - that involve high temperature (up to 1000°F) and low pressure (up to 5 psi) conditions.

FlexCom fabric expansion joints are made from our trademark ChemShield nonporous barrier material, a sophisticated fabric made by laminating one or more layers of highly durable 100% PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) thermoplastic film to a high performance fiberglass substrate. With its extremely high molecular weight and high fluorine content, ChemShield's nonflammable PTFE component provides excellent thermal stability while its multi-ply fiberglass construction makes it an ideal thermal insulator.

Gas pressure can add a significant load to the joint and your ductwork, and so it is important that your fabric expansion joint design be carefully engineered to reliably perform under the specific pressure expected in your system. Our U-belt custom fabric expansion joints are designed for applications in which gas pressure load tolerances do not exceed 5 psi.

For applications that require pressure tolerance up to 10 psi and temperature resistance up to 1800°F, we also manufacture a complete line of custom flat belt composite expansion joints that feature stainless steel components.

For applications requiring pressure tolerance in excess of 10psi, we offer a complete line of metal bellows (also called metallic expansion joints). We recommend use of a metal bellows for any application involving liquids, high pressure (up to 300psi) or temperatures in excess of 1800°F.
