U-Belt Fabric Expansion Joint Designs: Moisture, UV and Atmospheric Aging
Our fabric expansion joints are formed primarily from our trademark barrier material ChemShield, made of one or more 100% PTFE thermoplastic film layers laminated to a heavy duty fiberglass cloth. This PTFE barrier affords ChemShield-based fabric expansion joints - and the high temperature, low pressure gas transfer applications that depend on them - with an exceptionally high level of protection from chemical attack, corrosion and particulate abrasion. Not only does ChemShield provide exceptional protection from the thermal stresses and contamination risks present within the gas stream, it also offers superior resistance to the stresses caused by the joint's external environment. Moisture. PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) has an extremely low rate of moisture retention - less than 0.01%. By bonding one or more PTFE layers to a high performance fiberglass substrate, FlexCom's engineers offer a unique expansion joint that is chemically unaffected by and highly resistant to the moisture present in the surrounding atmosphere. Ultraviolet (UV). The carbon-fluorine chemical composition of ChemShield's PTFE thermoplastic film lacks the light absorbing impurities that can act as initiators of photo-oxidation. This unique feature of ChemShield barrier materials provides our custom fabric expansion joints with excellent resistance to ultraviolet radiation, oxidation and other forms of atmospheric aging. Environmental Temperature. ChemShield is a 100% impermeable fabric, highly adaptable to a very wide range of environmental temperatures. FlexCom fabric expansion joints made from ChemShield fabrics are designed to retain peak performance even within the harshest surrounding climate. Learn more about:
